Feed My Sheep is part of Bread and Fishes, an outreach mission sponsored by Dumfries United Methodist Church. The second and fourth Mondays of every month, they serve a hot dinner to members of the community. At the same time, they offer an opportunity for worship. Church members volunteer with both the adults and the children. This program is well attended. They also have a stocked food pantry and a clothes closet.
There are several ways you can get involved with this program. Two to three times a year, Spirit and Life Church prepares and serves the meal on Monday night. We usually plan for about 50-70 people and serve dishes such as chili or lasagna, easy dishes to prepare ahead and hearty to satisfy hungry folks. Should DUMC expand their program, we will try to serve more often.
Your donation to the clothes closet would be appreciated, too. All of those gently used clothes you tire of or your children grow quickly out of would be accepted, sorted and put out in the clothes closet. They provide clothing, shoes, and baby items to those who may need them.
They also have a beautiful food pantry. Every Monday night, volunteers bags up basic food items, something many in the community have come to depend on. If you or your small group would like to donate food items, they would greatly appreciate your help. They like to have such items as peanut butter, rice, canned vegetables and fruits.
